Science and Religion: Friends or Foes?
Author: David H. Bailey
Many Christians struggle to understand the relationship between the events described in the Old Testament and what they have learned about the beginning of life from science. Most confusing is the relationship between biological evolution and the creation accounts found in Genesis.
The Church's official position on scientific explanations for the beginning and development of life is that it has no position. Instead it prefers to leave science to the scientists and concentrate on teaching saving principles.
But careful examination of the position of science and religion shows that the two are not necessarily at odds. Acceptance of evolution and Big Bang cosmology can co-exist with a belief in a divine creation.
